Brittany Maldonado
Brittany Maldonado is a talented artist. Born and raised in the Bronx and a true artist at heart. She loves acting, dancing, painting, and recently added poetry to her mix of talents. Her first love was dance and in high school she choreographed a 13 minutes hip hop piece her junior year. Her acting is touching and real. Her art is raw, forces one to really listen to the message she is presenting and does so beautifully. Her poetry is emotional and very personal only making her words powerful and sincere. Miss Britt said her goal with all her work is, “I want to tell the untold stories of the people that no one knows but everyone knows.” Which I believe she accomplishes in everything she does.
What caught my attention to Miss Britt’s artwork is that it is loud but not obnoxious. She manages to get her point across in a very honest way that forced me to really take in the entire piece and appreciate the rawness. She shows you the woman’s body from a female’s perspective both mentally and emotionally and those pieces are beautiful, sexy, and strong. She does not tip toe around the story she is trying to tell nor does not sugar coat what she expresses. Her art tells a story without words and that is something everyone can appreciate about her work.
Her idol is Salvador Dali. She also loves Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Guayasamin, and Botero. All of these artists are extremely talented and ones that I am sure we are happy inspire Miss Britt.

Taking over, block by block,
chipping away at the heart and soul of our neighborhoods.
Keep your fucking pub and give me back my chimi spot.
Take your organic market to midtown and give me back my supermercado.
I don’t want a fancy haircut in your overly priced salon,
I want a five dollar shape up son.
Our hood was “hip” before you showed up to fuck shit up.
You ain’t doing us a favor, you ain’t our fucking savior.

Dignity - is a term used in moral, ethical, and political discussions to signify that a being has an innate right to respect and ethical treatment
And
Self Respect - proper esteem or regard for the dignity of one’s character.
Terminologies that I need to implement in my life on a more constant basis!!!
nuff said - because it feels so draining!
…it is like a mirage, hope that is, a mirage of could be’s, should have and would have been.

She moved my heart to murmur as if angels would whisper simultaneously into my blood streams, forcing my veins to beat their lullabies into my dreams. Sleeping within arms length of heavens, soft as fingertips dipped in clouds Her hand on mine like finding love in a crowd. I…
